Bathroom Wall Decor Idea Ideas

Bathroom Wall Decor

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in any home, yet it's often one of the least decorated. Many people spend lots of time decorating their living room, dining room and recreation rooms, but spend far less time decorating the bathroom. This is a real shame, because the bathroom deserves as much attention and interest as any other room in your house. It's also one of the most overlooked rooms in the home, which means that mistakes made here can lead to big problems elsewhere in your home.

Expert Samantha Brown of Bed Bath and Beyond has put together some great advice on how you can incorporate the best bathroom wall decor into your own home without breaking the bank. Her eight suggestions include: DIY light fixtures. "I've seen plenty of bathrooms where homeowners have used cheap, disposable ceiling lights that are flat, ugly and just not all that attractive. I wouldn't advise using this kind of lighting fixtures, even on a powder room wall, because they don't create the ambience that you're going for."

Clear acrylic prints. "Powder rooms, by nature, lend themselves very well to clear acrylic prints. Because they are blank walls, you can do as you please. But be sure to use the right backdrop. A white, granite countertop would be the best choice, but there are also many gorgeous acrylic prints available in red, black and other colors."

Bathroom wall art. "I love to see bathroom wall art - especially framed art - on blank walls. I particularly like framed art featuring scalloped-edged rocks. It's perfect for a powder room, because the scalloped edges go well with the sleek design of the cabinets and the mirror frame."

Seasonal props. "I love to see bathrooms with seasonal props. For winter, try to find an ice cream bowl filled with ice cream and white chocolate syrup. For summer, you could mount an ice bucket with watermelons and limes, which are perfect for a late afternoon relaxing session." These tips make it easy for anyone to create their own DIY master bathroom decor.

" Gallery Wall Decals. I love to see bathroom wall decor with gallery-style, intricate gallery wall decals. The wall decal could be a full-color photo or a painting. If you're working with a blank wall, this is a great way to turn your space into a collage of textures and color." From the above gallery wall decal example, it's easy to see how this type of bathroom wall decor can be an excellent addition to any powder room.

Bathroom wall art. This one's a no-brainer, but it's interesting that many people overlook it when creating bathroom wall decor ideas. "If you have an empty wall, post photos of your family, your travels, or favorite hobbies on it. If you don't have space for photos, post creative designs from your computer. You can even make a collage of photos and paint it on the wall to match," says Elizabeth Blum, who owns Creative Memories in San Francisco, California.

But that's not all that you can do with bathroom wall decor ideas. "You can also get fabric and cut it yourself to use as a throw on a couch or a pillowcase. Or sew some cloth together and make pillowcases out of it. Whatever you choose, just remember to have fun and stay away from patterned paper designs," says Karen Bleier, who owns Design By Mom in Emeryville, California.

Embroidered pictures. This one is actually an old bathroom wall decor idea, but it's making a comeback. Embroidered pictures can be a great way to jazz up plain bathroom walls. For example, if you have white walls, you could accent them with an embroidered image - you may even have to sew on washi tape to hold the image in place, since anything heavier than washi tape is likely to fall off.

Paintings and prints. This is a tricky one, since most people think it means they have to have a canvas on which to hang their artwork. Actually, that's not the case at all. There are some excellent options for your bathroom wall art, such as framed or unframed oil paintings or prints, photo images, and other works of art that would look great on blank walls.

Seasonal props. This may seem like a strange bathroom wall decor idea, but it does make a lot of sense. Why not use the themes from holiday seasons in your decor? You could buy inexpensive glass vases or pots to fill with seasonal flowers and then place the vases against your bathroom walls. This is a great way to bring life back into your bathroom during the colder months!
