A History of Christmas Tree Decorations

Christmas Tree Decorations

Christmas tree decorations are one of the oldest traditions going all the way back to the year 1950. The early Christmases used pumpkins and flowers as their decorations, but as time moved forward other shapes were used such as artificial snow, berries, fruits, trees, and more. These decorations are popular today and some are becoming collectors' items.

There are many types of ornaments that are available for Christmas tree decorations. Many people like to have an array of decorations that are all from the same era or from the same type of fruit. For instance, some collect early Christmas trees that they can look at and enjoy from all angles. Others collect Christmas bulbs and decorate them themselves.

A popular choice for early Christmas tree decorations are those that are made of plastic and other materials. These are easy to keep clean and usually come with beautiful ribbons tied around them. The shape and colors of these ornaments can be nearly unlimited. You could have stars, flowers, icicles, snowflakes, candy canes, angels, and so much more. They come in shapes ranging from simple to intricate.

Other types of early Christmas tree decorations are tinsel. Tinsel was a huge hit in the 1970's and remains a favorite today. Tinsel was originally designed to finish off the interior of homes. It used colorful ribbons and small bells that were connected to a chain. Tinsel was then hung from the ceiling and was complemented by various other ornaments hung on the tree.

Some traditions are kept throughout the year with outdoor Christmas tree decorations. One such tradition is the hanging of tinsel or other festive items from the roof of the home. This is done before the tree is even cut from the tree. The families decorate their roofs with this type of decoration in hopes of getting a big icicle drop when the first snowfall hits. The dropping of this water drizzle is an important part of the tradition of Christmas tree decorations.

Another tradition that began during Medieval Times began with baubles. These ornaments had precious stones or jewels hidden within the beads making it impossible to remove them without breaking the delicate ornaments. A bauble might contain an emerald or some other precious stone that was worth quite a lot of money at the time. People would place these expensive baubles into their Christmas trees hoping to get lucky at the yearly jewels toss.

Many of these early Christmas tree decorations involved little pieces of candies and nuts wrapped in cloth around the branches. At first, these baubles were made only of gold or silver but as time went on, more jewels and precious stones were added to the ornaments. The candy itself was used to enhance the moments of joyous celebration that these ornaments represented.

Today there are so many different types of Germany that there are entire industries devoted to making and selling all types of Christmas tree decorations. When it comes to baubles, however, one of the most popular choices is to use real German silver and gold ornaments. There is something very special about this type of ornament because of the history of its creation. When you walk into a store today and see a beautifully decorated tree with all of those wonderful baubles, you will be tempted to buy a piece or two just for the beauty of it. The history of this symbolic item is steeped in royalty and gold and you can feel that something special is taking place as you and your loved ones are enjoying this special holiday.
